Match Report: Yeovil Town v Weymouth

Yeovil Town were left frustrated once again at Huish Park this afternoon as they let a 1-0 lead slip in the dying moments of the game against Weymouth. A goal from substitute Tom Bearwish in the 92nd minute cancelled out Charlie Wakefield's first half goal to set up a replay at the Bob Lucas Stadium.

Darren Sarll made one change to the side that was held to a 1-1 draw with Altrincham in midweek as Charlie Wakefield reclaimed his spot in the starting XI as Adi Yussuf dropped to the bench.

Yeovil lined up in a 4-4-2 formation with Jordan Barnett, Max Hunt, Josh Staunton and Dan Moss in front of Grant Smith. Matt Worthington, Dale Gorman, Tom Knowles and Charlie Wakefield made up the midfield while Ben Seymour and Joe Quigley lead the attack.

On the bench was Max Evans, Sonny Blu Lo-Everton, Lewis Simper, Toby Stephens, Jack Robinson, Adi Yussuf and Jordan Dyer.

Yeovil kicked off towards the home terrace.

Yeovil made a bright start to the game and won the first corner of the game after just 30 seconds on the right hand side which was crossed to the near post but defended away.

They won a second corner on the right just 4 minutes later but once again it was cleared.

Yeovil got their reward for starting the game with such a high tempo on 11 minutes as a long ball forward was eventually won by Charlie Wakefield who ran in on goal and fired the ball into the bottom left hand corner to give Yeovil a deserved 1-0 advantage.

Weymouth won their first corner of the game on 14 minutes which was crossed to the far post but headed way over the bar.

7 minutes later they won another corner but this time Yeovil were able to defend it with ease.

Weymouth had a good chance to equalise on 28 minutes as Calvin Brooks won a battle with Jordan Barnett but his effort could only hit the side netting.

As half time approached both sides had a few corners but on each occasion they came to nothing.

Just before half time Yeovil almost increased their lead as a superb cross into the box from Tom Knowles found Matt Worthington but he couldn't keep his effort on target.

Two minutes of time was added on and Yeovil went in at the break with a deserved 1-0 advantage.

Half Time: Yeovil Town 1-0 Weymouth

Yeovil couldn't keep up the same momentum in the second half and that allowed Weymouth to have more of the ball.

Yeovil won a corner on 53 minutes which was crossed to the far post and headed at goal but the goalkeeper was able to catch the effort.

Weymouth won a corner of their own on 57 minutes but it came to nothing.

Weymouth made a double substitution on the hour mark as Brandon Goodship was replaced by Akheem Rose and Bradley Ash was replaced by Martell Taylor-Crossdale.

Yeovil continued to struggle in the second half and it was only set plays where Yeovil had a chance to threaten.

On 70 minutes Yeovil won a corner but once again they couldn't make anything of it.

Yeovil made their first substitution of the game on 80 minutes as Tom Knowles was replaced by Jack Robinson.

Two minutes later Weymouth won a corner which was crossed to the center of the box but Grant Smith was able to catch the effort.

Weymouth made their last substitution on 85 minutes as Calvin Brooks was replaced by Tom Bearwish.

Yeovil were hoping to wind the clock down in the dying stages and 4 minutes of time was added on to set up a nervy end to the tie.

Ultimately though Yeovil paid the price for their poor performance in the second half and with 92 minutes on the clock Weymouth equalised as a long throw into the box was met by Tom Bearwish who diverted the ball into the bottom corner.

Yeovil didn't have enough time to respond and both sides will have to play all over again on Tuesday to settle the tie.

Full Time: Yeovil Town 1-1 Weymouth

It's always frustrating to draw a match right at the end but to do it against a local rival is even harder to take. Yeovil can have no complaints though as they simply weren't good enough in the second half and allowed Weymouth more of the ball and eventually they punished us. The replay will be this Tuesday evening at the Bob Lucas Stadium.
