Match Report: Yeovil Town v Barnet

Yeovil Town's unbeaten league run stretched to eight games yesterday afternoon as they saw off Barnet 1-0 at Huish Park. Adi Yussuf's headed goal early in the first half gave Town the lead and Barnet weren't able to respond as once again the defence put in a superb shift.

Darren Sarll named an unchanged side that beat Stevenage 1-0 last weekend and again opted for a 4-3-3 formation with Dan Moss, Max Hunt, Luke Wilkinson and Morgan Williams in front of Grant Smith. Matt Worthington, Josh Staunton and Dale Gorman made up the midfield while Sonny Blu Lo-Everton, Adi Yussuf and Charlie Wakefield lead the attack.

On the bench was Max Evans, Reuben Reid, Tom Knowles and Alex Bradley.

Barnet kicked off towards the home terrace.

Yeovil made a superb start to the game and were putting Barnet under pressure right from the kick off and almost took the lead on 5 minutes as Dale Gorman's cross found Adi Yussuf who's shot was pushed onto the crossbar.

Just four minutes later though Dale Gorman again found Adi Yussuf with a cross to the back post and Yussuf's header found the top corner to put the home side deservedly ahead.

The game went rather flat after the goal as Yeovil weren't able to keep up the same momentum and Barnet were struggling to get themselves going. The referee wasn't helping matters either as he seemed to be accusing Yeovil players of time wasting with barely 20 minutes on the clock and also not giving Yeovil the same decisions as he was giving to Barnet.

Barnet won the first corner of the game on 33 minutes which was crossed to the center of the box but Yeovil were able to head the ball clear.

Two minutes of time was added on at the end of the half and Yeovil went in with a deserved 1-0 advantage.

Half Time: Yeovil Town 1-0 Barnet

The second half continued in a similar manner to how the first half ended as both sides were not at their best.

On 63 minutes Yeovil won a corner on the right hand side which was crossed to the far post but Barnet cleared the ball away.

On 71 minutes Barnet made their first substitution as Serhad Tasdemir was replaced by Ben Richards-Everton.

Two minutes later Yeovil made their first substitution as Adi Yussuf was replaced by Tom Knowles.

Yeovil almost doubled their lead on 76 minutes as a corner from the right hand side was headed on to Max Hunt at the far post but his header was well saved by Alex Oxborough.

Barnet made their second and last substitution on 81 minutes as Wes Fonguck was replaced by Josh Payne.

Barnet won a corner on 84 minutes on the right hand side which came to nothing and shortly afterwards as brawl broke out between the two sets of players after an off the ball incident involving Ephron Mason-Clark and Dale Gorman. After everything had settled down the referee showed Mason-Clark a straight red card, much to the dismay of the Barnet bench which then saw four yellows being brandished to the Barnet coaching staff and substitutes.

Yeovil made their second substitution on 89 minutes as Charlie Wakefield was replaced by Reuben Reid.

6 minutes of time was added on and after Yeovil made their final substitution by replacing Dale Gorman with Alex Bradley Yeovil were able to see the game out for another victory.

Full Time: Yeovil Town 1-0 Barnet

It was a scrappy game which is often the norm when playing Barnet and Yeovil were able to do what was needed to seal the three points. The win lifts us up into 9th place with 31 points, 2 points off the play offs with a game in hand over most of the teams above us.

Yeovil's season continues next weekend as Woking travel to Huish Park for an FA Trophy third round tie. Kick off is at 3PM.
