Match Report: Yeovil Town v AFC Bournemouth

Yeovil Town's FA Cup run came to an end at Huish Park yesterday evening as Championship side AFC Bournemouth ran out 3-1 winners. Emaliano Marcondes put Bournemouth 2-0 up before half time but Yeovil pulled one back through Joe Quigley just after the break. Marcondes then completed his hat trick with 20 minutes to go and Yeovil Town weren't able to create more FA Cup history this time around.

Darren Sarll made three changes to the side that was beaten 2-1 by Torquay United last weekend. Dan Moss, Luke Wilkinson and Joe Quigley all regained their places in the starting XI as Jack Robinson, Charlie Wakefield and Adi Yussuf all dropped to the bench.

Yeovil lined up in a 4-4-2 formation with Dan Moss, Max Hunt, Luke Wilkinson and Morgan Williams in front of Dillon Barnes. Jordan Barnett, Josh Staunton, Dale Gorman and Matt Worthington made up the midfield while Joe Quigley and Tom Knowles lead the attack.

On the bench was Max Evans, Alex Bradley, Sonny Blu Lo-Everton, Reuben Reid, Jack Robinson, Toby Stephens, Adi Yussuf, Charlie Wakefield and Jaheim Headley.

AFC Bournemouth kicked off towards the home terrace.

The opening 10 minutes were fairly even and Yeovil were giving it a good go.

Yeovil won a free kick 10 minutes in just outside of the box slightly to the right of goal. Dale Gorman stepped up to take the kick and got a good connection on the ball but it flew wide of the post.

Yeovil won the first corner of the game on 15 minutes on the right hand side which was crossed to the center of the box but the keeper was able to catch the ball.

Three minutes later though Yeovil fell behind as a ball over the top found Emaliano Marcondes who worked the space and produced a low shot which beat Dillon Barnes and nestled into the bottom corner.

Bournemouth won their first corner on 21 minutes on the right hand side which was taken short and then crossed into the box. Jaidon Anthony's cross in ended up hitting the post and away to safety.

Shortly afterwards Bournemouth won another corner but this time Yeovil were able to defend the ball well.

Bournemouth were now in control of the game as their class began to show and Yeovil were struggling to create anything at all.

With two minutes remaining until half time Emaliano Marcondes got his second goal as Jaidon Anthony fed the ball through to him and his first time finish found the bottom corner to put Bournemouth in total control.

Half Time: Yeovil Town 0-2 AFC Bournemouth

Yeovil started the second half in perfect fashion as they managed to pull one back through Joe Quigley. Bournemouth goal keeper Orjan Nyland took too much time on the ball in the box and Tom Knowles was able to steal the ball from his feet and Joe Quigley had a tap in from close range.

Bournemouth made their first substitution on 63 minutes as Jaidon Anthony was replaced by Robbie Brady.

Six minutes later Yeovil made their first substitution as Morgan Williams was replaced by Charlie Wakefield.

With 20 minutes to go Emaliano Marcondes completed his hat trick as a slick move allowed Jamal Lowe to produce a shot at goal which Dillan Barnes palmed into the path of Marcondes who tapped the ball into the back of the net.

Yeovil's chances of getting back into the game were slim now but they won a couple of corners shortly after the goal but they couldn't capitalise on them on either occasion and Yeovil's cup run came to an end.

Full Time: Yeovil Town 1-3 AFC Bournemouth

The Yeovil players and management team can be proud of the cup run that they produced this season. Playing against a team that is currently sitting three points clear at the top of the Championship can easily result in a heavy defeat but Yeovil certainly didn't disgrace themselves and put in a battling performance.

Yeovil return to National League action on Tuesday evening as they make the trip to Essex to face Southend United. Kick off is at 7:45PM.
