Match Report: Weymouth v Yeovil Town

Yeovil Town were held to a goalless draw with local rivals Weymouth at the Bob Lucas Stadium this afternoon in a drab derby game. After a lackluster first half Yeovil were in ascendency in the second but couldn't find the goal that they needed to take the bragging rights.

Charlie Lee made three changes to the side that was beaten 2-0 by Aldershot Town on Friday afternoon. Morgan Williams, Charlie Wakefield and Lawson D'Ath regained their places in the starting line up as Alex Bradley, Sonny Blu Lo-Everton and Josh Neufville dropped to the bench.

Yeovil opted for a 4-4-2 formation with Mark Little, Luke Wilkinson, Ben Barclay and Morgan Williams in front of Grant Smith. Tom Knowles, Dale Gorman, Lawson D'Ath and Jordan Barnett made up the midfield while Reuben Reid and Charlie Wakefield lead the attack.

On the bench was Max Hunt, Adi Yussuf, Alex Bradley, Sonny Blu Lo-Everton and Josh Neufville.

Weymouth kicked off towards the away terrace.

The first half was a complete non-event and the game was as far from a "Derby" game as you could get. Neither side were creating many chances but on the rare occasions that Weymouth got forward they were looking more threatening.

Weymouth had the ball in the net twice during the opening 15 minutes. The first time came on 8 minutes when Ben Thomson beat Grant Smith and then on 15 minutes when Tom Bearwish headed in from close range but both efforts were ruled out for offside.

The rest of the half was not very good at all and neither side threatened to take the lead.

The best entertainment of the half came just before half time when a home supporter was ejected from the ground for an altercation with Luke Wilkinson when he was about to return to the field of play after an injury. The fan in question ended up throwing a bottle of water at him and was eventually removed from the ground to a load of jeers from the away crowd.

Half Time: Weymouth 0-0 Yeovil Town

The second half was better for Yeovil as they were able to put Weymouth under more pressure. Straight from the kick off Yeovil created a chance as Tom Knowles went on a great run down the right hand side and put a low shot on goal but Ross Fitzsimons was able to gather the ball.

Yeovil continued to play the better football but they were again lacking in ability up-front and couldn't make the most of the opportunities they created.

Both sides made their first substitutions on 71 minutes as Charlie Wakefield was replaced by Josh Neufville while Matt Buse was replaced by Sean Shields.

With 12 minutes to go Yeovil had a great chance to take the lead as Reuben Reid did well on the right hand side and put a cross to the far post to Jordan Barnett who headed the ball into the ground and the ball bounced over the bar.

Yeovil made their second substitution on 85 minutes as Lawson D'Ath was replaced by Sonny Blu Lo-Everton.

Two minutes later Weymouth made their final substitutions as Ben Morgan and Josh McQuoid were replaced by Manasse Mampala and Andy Robinson.

Yeovil also made their final substitution as Reuben Reid was replaced by Adi Yussuf.

Five minutes of time was added on which passed without incident and the points where shared once again between the two sides.

Full Time: Weymouth 0-0 Yeovil Town

The game today certainly didn't feel like a derby game and the low attendance didn't help. A healthy following of around 1,200 Yeovil fans in a total crowd of 2,600 meant that the atmosphere was nowhere near as good as it could have been. The players from both teams also didn't seem to step up to the occasion either and it ended up just being a drab game of football.

Yeovil's season continues on Saturday afternoon as Stockport County are the visitors to Huish Park. Kick off is at 3:00PM
