Match Report: Altrincham v Yeovil Town

Yeovil Town had to settle for a draw with Altrincham at Moss Lane yesterday afternoon as a late equaliser from Egli Kaja denied Yeovil their first win of the season. Yeovil lead twice during the game as Malachi Linton gave Yeovil the lead on 9 minutes but Toby Mullarkey levelled 5 minutes before half time. Yeovil regained the lead with 20 minutes to go through substitute Gime Toure but in the first minute of stoppage time Egli Kaja scored the host's equaliser.

Chris Hargreaves made two changes to the side that lost to Barnet in midweek. Sam Pearson was out through injury while Sam Perry dropped to the bench. Chiori Johnson and Lawson D'Ath took their places.

Yeovil opted for a 4-4-2 formation with Morgan Williams, Max Hunt, Josh Staunton and Jamie Reckord in front of Grant Smith. Charlie Wakefield, Matt Worthington, Lawson D'Ath and Chiori Johnson made up the midfield while Alex Fisher and Malachi Linton lead the attack.

On the bench was Will Buse, Gime Toure, Alfie Pond, Sam Perry and Matt Grivosti

Yeovil kicked off towards the home end.

Altrincham were the side doing the early pressing but with 9 minutes gone it was Yeovil who broke the deadlock with their only chance of the first half. Matt Worthington nicked the ball and played in Malachi Linton who's turn and shot couldn't be saved by Dermot Mee.

The game continued with Yeovil struggling to play with fluency and they struggled to create chances, often playing the long ball.

Very little happened for most of the remainder of the half for both sides until the 40th minute when the home side levelled. Ryan Colclough's shot across the face of goal went wide but Toby Mullarkey was there for the follow up and fired home from a narrow angle.

Half Time: Altrincham 1-1 Yeovil Town

Neither side made changes at half time and Yeovil again struggled to get going in the second half.

That all changed on the hour mark when Alex Fisher was replaced by Gime Toure and suddenly Yeovil were brought to life and putting pressure on the home side.

Altrincham made a double substitution on 68 minutes as Aaron Bennett and Chris Conn-Clarke were replaced by Egli Kaja and Ben Pringle.

Shortly after the subs Yeovil were ahead once more as Gime Toure intercepted a sloppy pass in the Altrincham defence and ran at goal. His first effort well blocked by the scrambling Alty defence but his second shot couldn't be stopped.

Yeovil made their second substitution shortly after the goal as Chiori Johnson was replaced by Matt Grivosti.

Both sides were fairly even for the remainder of the game but it was Altrincham who were looking the most likely to get the next goal.

With 10 minutes to go Altrincham made their final substitution as Jordan Hulme was replaced by Marcus Dinanga before Yeovil replaced Lawson D'Ath with Sam Perry on 86 minutes.

Five minutes of time was added on and the home side drew the game level again as a cross in from the left side was headed on by Egli Kaja which looped over Grant Smith and into the net.

Full Time: Altrincham 2-2 Yeovil Town

A draw was probably the right result in this game. Yeovil weren't at their best for large spells of the game and we do need to tighten up at the back. Despite going four games without a win to start the season there are positive signs that the first win isn't far away and we will no doubt start climbing the table.

Perhaps the most important thing of the day though was the mystery of who had lost their keys at the ground! If anybody has lost a key (might be a front door key, or even a back door key), please contact Altrincham FC directly. Also - could people please stop walking directly in front of the press box, the PA announcer would greatly appreciate it.
