Match Report: Dorking Wanderers v Yeovil Town

Yeovil Town were held to yet another draw last night at the Meadowbank Stadium as Dorking Wanderers came from behind to secure a point. Sam Pearson put Yeovil ahead after just 4 minutes but Dorking equalised on 53 minutes through Jimmy Muitt. Yeovil once again appeared to be devoid of any ideas going forward and they weren't able to get a win in what was described as a "must win game" by Chris Hargreaves.

Chris Hargreaves made four changes to the side that lost 1-0 at Southend at the weekend. Gime Toure was out through suspension while Alex Fisher and Charlie Wakefield dropped to the bench. Ben Richards-Everton was dropped. Max Hunt, Chiori Johnson, Will Dawes and Malachi Linton regained their starting places.

On the bench was Ollie Haste, Sam Perry, Jake Scrimshaw, Charlie Wakefield and Alex Fisher.

Yeovil opted for a 3-4-3 formation with Owen Bevan, Josh Staunton and Max Hunt in front of Grant Smith. Morgan Williams, Matt Worthington, Lawson D'Ath and Chiori Johnson made up the midfield while Sam Pearson, Malachi Linton and Will Dawes lead the front line.

On the bench was Ollie Haste, Sam Perry, Jake Scrimshaw, Charlie Wakefield and Alex Fisher.

Yeovil kicked off towards the home end.

Yeovil made a blistering start to the game and were ahead after just 4 minutes when Sam Pearson did well to hold off a defender and then produced a show shot that nestled into the bottom corner.

Unfortunately, from then on Yeovil began to sit deeper and deeper, inviting Dorking to start putting pressure on the Yeovil defence.

Dorking almost pulled it level on 20 minutes when Grant Smith made a terrific save during a goalmouth scramble that Yeovil eventually managed to clear.

The half continued with Dorking applying pressure and with 5 minutes to go until half time a long range shot almost caught out Grant Smith but the ball hit the bar and away to safety.

Half Time: Dorking Wanderers 0-1 Yeovil Town

Neither side made changes at half time and the game continued in the same manner with Dorking looking the more threatening.

On 53 minutes the goal that Dorking deserved came as a bit of pinball in the box eventually saws Jimmy Muitt turn the ball home.

Yeovil then made their first substitution as Will Dawes was replaced by Charlie Wakefield.

Wakefield was involved almost straight away in an attempt to regain the lead when he found Matt Worthington but he wasted his opportunity to test the keeper.

Dorking made their first

Yeovil's attacking play was mostly in-effective for the rest of the game, with only a hopeful effort from Malachi Linton on 65 minutes that flew over the bar being the closest Yeovil came to a goal.

Dorking made their second substitution on 66 minutes as Jimmy Muitt was replaced by Adam Mekki.

Yeovil just couldn't get going for the remainder of the game, with only half-chances coming their way.

Dorking and Yeovil made substitutions on 75 minutes when Niall McManus was replaced by Jack Jebb and Chiori Johnson was replaced by Alex Fisher.

Yeovil made their final substitution on 80 minutes when Lawson D'Ath was replaced by Sam Perry.

The final 10 minutes saw little in the way of chances for either side and after the four minutes of added time were over Yeovil were once again held to a draw.

Full Time: Dorking Wanderers 1-1 Yeovil Town

This game felt like an exact copy of the game at Eastleigh whereby we made a very positive start but then just sat back, invited pressure and paid the price. Chris Hargreaves and Josh Staunton described this game as a must win after the Southend defeat, whether that is true or not, the team didn't play like it.

We are now in the bottom four, one point from the bottom of the table and with only 1 win in 12 games there are very serious concerns for how our season is going to play out. For us to be in a National League relegation scrap is almost unthinkable for a club that has always strived to be better, but at the moment, it's hard to see how we are going to pull ourselves away from danger.
