Match Report: Woking v Yeovil Town

Yeovil Town suffered late heartbreak again as Mark Cooper saw his side's first defeat since he became manager last week as Padraig Amond's late goal was enough give Woking the points at the Kingfield Stadium. In what was a quiet game where Yeovil and Woking mostly cancelled each other out, it was the home side who went on to take the points as Amond's goal made up for his earlier penalty that was saved by Grant Smith.

Mark Cooper made three changes to the side that drew with Maidstone United at the weekend. Chiori Johnson, Jamie Reckord and new loan signing Jamie Andrews took their places in the starting XI as Sam Perry was dropped to the bench and Matt Worthington and Morgan Williams were dropped.

Yeovil opted for a 3-4-2-1 formation with Ben Richards-Everton, Max Hunt and Owen Bevan in front of Grant Smith. Jamie Reckord, Jamie Andrews, Josh Staunton and Chiori Johnson made up the midfield while Ewen Clarke and Malachi Linton sat just behind Alex Fisher.

On the bench was Will Buse, Sam Perry, Gime Toure, Ollie Hulbert and Will Dawes.

Yeovil kicked off towards the home end.

The first half was a very tame affair, and neither team looked very threatening. It seemed as though both sides just cancelled each other out and there was little evidence that one team was struggling at the bottom while the other is in the play-offs.

Half chances came and went for both sides but the 0-0 scoreline at half time was a fair reflection of the game.

Half Time: Woking 0-0 Yeovil Town

The second half continued to be a fairly dull affair until the 55th minute when Grant Smith produced a fantastic save from Padraig Almond who was put through one-on-one. Smith stayed big and managed to make the save.

Three minutes later Woking were awarded a penalty when Jermaine Anderson was fouled in the box. Almond stepped up but once again found Grant Smith too hard to beat as his poor penalty was saved.

On 62 minutes Yeovil made a double substitution as Chiori Johnson and Malachi Linton were replaced by Gime Toure and Will Dawes.

Shortly after Woking made their first substitution as Jahmari Clarke was replaced by Jack Roles.

The game continued in a calmer affair as both sides were again struggling to create. Woking looked the side more likely to nick it but Yeovil were holding their own and trying to be positive.

Yeovil made their final substitution on 83 minutes when Ewen Clarke was replaced by Sam Perry.

2 minutes later Woking took the lead when Jack Roles put a cross into the box that wasn't dealt with and Padraig Amond finally got his goal at the back post.

4 minutes of time was added on and after Woking made two late substitutions as Padraig Amond and Rick Korboa were replaced by Bryant Bilongo and Jake Vokins, the referee brought the game to an end and Yeovil returned to Somerset empty handed.

Full Time: Woking 1-0 Yeovil Town

Although the game ended in defeat, there were signs of improvement for Yeovil last night. Our usual habit of going back into our shell as the game goes on wasn't there and even though we lacked an attacking threat all game we were at least trying to create something. Mark Cooper now has a full week with the team on the training ground where he can get to work addressing the issues with the squad.
