Match Report: Yeovil Town v Taunton Town

Yeovil Town progressed to the 2nd Round of the Somerset Premier Cup last night as they overcame Taunton Town 2-1 at Huish Park. Louis Britton put Yeovil ahead just before the half hour mark but Taunton levelled just after half time when a cracking shot from Dylan Morgan curled into the top corner. Matt Worthington regained the lead just after the hour and it proved to be enough to send Yeovil Town through.

Mark Cooper named a strong starting lineup for this tie, consisting of Will Buse, Jamie Reckord, Max Hunt, Matt Worthington, Lawson D'Ath, Malachi Linton, Charlie Wakefield, Ewen Clark, Owen Bevan, Andrew Oluwabori and Louis Britton.

On the bench was Alex Fisher, Chiori Johnson, Jamie Andrews, Ollie Haste and Benjani Jr.

Taunton kicked off towards the home end.

The game was fairly tame for the first half hour or so, but suddenly Charlie Wakefield unleashed a shot from 30 yards out which hit the crossbar and into the ground but it hadn't crossed the line. Taunton put the ball out for a corner and Louis Britton put the ball in to give Town the lead.

Neither side looked threatening for the rest of the half and Yeovil went in at half time with a deserved but slim advantage.

Taunton made a double substitution at half time, replacing Nick Grimes and Ollie Chamberlain with Joe Guest and Zac Smith.

Taunton had more of the play in the opening exchanges of the second half, and on 50 minutes Dylan Morgan levelled the game with a beautiful goal, curling the ball into the top corner from outside the area which left Will Buse grasping at air.

It didn't take long for Yeovil to restore the lead though, 13 minutes later Matt Worthington's deflected shot beat Lloyd Irish and Yeovil had the lead once again.

Shortly after, Yeovil made a double substitution as Jamie Reckord and Owen Bevan were replaced by Jamie Andrews and Ollie Haste.

Will Buse was called into action on 67 minutes when Taunton Town broke through but he stood firm to deny another equaliser.

With 20 minutes to go Yeovil made their last substitution as Louis Britton was replaced by Benjani Jr.

Seven minutes later Taunton made their last substitution as Dylan Morgan was replaced by Dan Ball.

The rest of the game was fairly comfortable for Yeovil and they held on to advance to the 2nd round.
