Match Report: Dagenham & Redbridge v Yeovil Town

Yeovil Town picked up their first away win of the season yesterday afternoon as they came away from Victoria Road with a 2-0 win over play-off chasing Dagenham & Redbridge. Jordan Maguire-Drew put Town ahead from the penalty spot on 30 minutes after a challenge on Matt Worthington that put the hosts down to 10 men. Matt Worthington sealed the points with 10 minutes to go with a thunderous strike from distance to send Yeovil home happy.

Mark Cooper made four changes to the side that lost 4-1 at Bromley two weeks ago. Owen Bevan, Charlie Cooper, Jack Clarke and Jordan Young took a place in the starting line up as Ben Richards-Everton, Lawson D'Ath and Alex Fisher were benched while Max Hunt was dropped.

Yeovil opted for what appeared to be a 4-5-1 formation with Jamie Reckord, Josh Staunton, Owen Bevan and Morgan Williams in front of Grant Smith. Andrew Oluwabori, Matt Worthington, Jack Clarke, Charlie Cooper and Jordan Maguire-Drew made up the midfield while Jordan Young lead the attack.

On the bench was Ben Richards-Everton, Lawson D'Ath, Alex Fisher, Charlie Wakefield and Edwin Agbaje.

Dagenham had the better of the opening exchanges but neither side created much.

Dagenham had to make their first substitution after 12 minutes when Sam Ling was forced off with an injury after clashing heads with Morgan Williams. Elliot Johnson came on to replace him.

The game continued being a fairly even encounter, but on 30 minutes Yeovil were given a golden chance to take the lead. Matt Worthington was put through on goal but fouled in the box by Matt Phipps and the referee gave a penalty. Phipps was then sent off and Jordan Maguire-Drew put Town 1 up by firing the penalty straight down the middle with the keeper diving to his left.

The rest of the half passed without incident and Town went in with the advantage at the break.

Half Time: Dagenham & Redbridge 0-1 Yeovil Town

Dagenham made their second substitution at half time as Dean Rance was replaced by Paul McCallum on 46 minutes.

Three minutes into the half Yeovil had a chance to increase the lead when Maguire-Drew played a pass to Andrew Oluwabori on the left hand side of the box but the effort was dragged wide.

Grant Smith had to receive treatment on 55 minutes to his left hand, which left Yeovil fans rather worried with no back-up keeper on the bench. Luckily he was able to continue.

Despite having a man advantage, Yeovil weren't finding it easy to assert themselves. The home side kept working hard and were creating chances as Yeovil struggled to create any of their own.

Yeovil made their first substitution on 66 minutes when Jordan Young was replaced by Alex Fisher.

9 minutes later Charlie Cooper and Jack Clarke were replaced by Lawson D'Ath and Edwin Agbaje.

Then, out of nowhere, Matt Worthington doubled Yeovil's advantage with a thunderous 25 yard strike that flew past Elliot Justham, making the task for the home side to get back into the game much harder.

With a man advantage, and a 2 goal cushion, Yeovil were able to comfortably see the game out, and return to Somerset with victory.

Full Time: Dagenham & Redbridge 0-2 Yeovil Town

This was Yeovil's first win on the road since the last game of last season at Altrincham, and it turned to be an important one with Torquay and Gateshead winning. We keep our 5 point gap to the relegation zone in tact and go into two home games where we can hopefully chalk up some more points.
