Match Report: Yeovil Town v Maidstone United

Yeovil Town were held to a 2-2 draw with bottom of the table Maidstone United at Huish Park this afternoon. The away side took the lead on 21 minutes through Sha'mar Lawson but Yeovil turned the game on its head midway through the second half when Alex Fisher scored two goals in the space of three minutes. Yeovil tried to hold the lead but conceded in injury time and had to settle for a draw.

Mark Cooper made two changes to the side that drew 0-0 with Wealdstone in mid-week. Owen Bevan was out through suspension while Jordan Young was dropped to the bench. Ben Richards-Everton and Jack Clarke took their places.

Yeovil opted for a 4-2-3-1 formation with Morgan Williams, Josh Staunton, Ben Richards-Everton and Edwin Agbaje in front of Grant Smith. Lawson D'Ath and Charlie Cooper were just in front of the defenders and Andrew Oluwabori, Matt Worthington and Jack Clarke sat in behind Jordan Maguire-Drew up front.

On the bench was Alex Fisher, Jordan Young, Chiori Johnson, Charlie Wakefield and Will Buse.

Yeovil kicked off towards the away end.

Despite being bottom of the league, Maidstone were the better side in the first half and were doing all the early pressing. Yeovil couldn't get themselves going like they did on Tuesday night and the flowing football that we saw on Tuesday had disappeared.

Maidstone deservedly took the lead on 21 minutes when Sha'mar Lawson produced a low shot that nestled into the corner. Yeovil simply couldn't deal the passing in and around the box and paid the price.

The half continued with Yeovil struggling to get into the game, and went in trailing by a single goal.

Half Time: Yeovil Town 0-1 Maidstone United

Yeovil made a double substitution at half time as Ben Richards-Everton and Jack Clarke were replaced by Alex Fisher and Chiori Johnson.

This had such a positive impact on our play, as all of a sudden Yeovil were playing much better and were beginning to trouble the away side.

Maidstone made their first substitution on 57 minutes when Regan Booty was replaced by Hady Ghandour.

On 67 minutes Yeovil pulled the game level in emphatic style as a perfect ball through by Morgan Williams found Alex Fisher who hit it first time and the ball flew into the top corner.

Maidstone made their second substitution on 68 minutes when Jack Cawley was replaced by Christie Pattison.

Just three minutes later, Yeovil were ahead when Fisher bundled the ball in at the far post following a low cross from Matt Worthington.

Yeovil had to make their final substitution on 75 minutes when Chiori Johnson picked up a knock and had to be replaced by Charlie Wakefield.

During the final 10 minutes Yeovil looked a bit edgy, and just didn't quite have enough to kill the game off completely.

5 minutes of time was added on and Maidstone made their final substitution on 91 minutes when Rorie Deacon was replaced by James Alabi.

Then, Yeovil conceded in a rather frustrating way. They were awarded a corner kick but rather than whip the ball in and try for a third goal, they opted to try and keep the ball in the corner. Maidstone won the ball, ran up the field and won a free kick just inside the Yeovil half. The ball was launched into the box and Jerome Binnom-Williams headed the ball home to force Yeovil to settle for a draw.

Full Time: Yeovil Town 2-2 Maidstone United

To concede so late on, especially in that particular manner made the result feel like a defeat. Yeovil only have themselves to blame for conceding like that and it's certainly a case of two points dropped today. We were the much better side in the second half and looked on course to pick up the win, but it wasn't to be.
