Match Report: Notts County v Yeovil Town

Yeovil Town suffered a undeserved 4-1 defeat against Notts County at Huish Park this afternoon. The away side took the lead after just 4 minutes through Macauley Langstaff but Town levelled on 65 minutes through Andrew Oluwabori. Notts were awarded a penalty on 84 minutes and regained the advantage before Langstaff grabbed two goals in two injury time minutes to complete a hat trick.

Mark Cooper made four changes to the side that drew 2-2 with Maidstone United a fortnight ago. Ben Richards-Everton had departed to Scunthorpe United on loan while Jordan Maguire-Drew and Jack Clarke were dropped and Andrew Oluwabori was benched. Jamie Reckord, Malachi Linton, Alex Fisher and new loan signing Ryan Law took their places.

On the bench was Will Buse, Jordan Young, Will Dawes and Andrew Oluwabori.

Notts County kicked off towards the home end.

It only took 4 minutes for the league leaders to take the lead when National League top scorer Macauley Langstaff headed home from a cross to the far post.

Notts were the better side in the first half and Yeovil weren't able to get much of a foothold in the game.

Having said that, Yeovil did have chances of their own. On 12 minutes Charlie Cooper was found in the box but he wasn't able to beat Sam Slocombe and on 18 minutes Matt Worthington had a short that was dragged wide.

The half continued with Notts in control but they didn't threaten to increase the lead and Yeovil went in a goal down at the break.

Half Time: Yeovil Town 0-1 Notts County

Neither side made changes at half time and the half continued with Yeovil again struggling to assert themselves.

Yeovil made their only substitutions on 58 minutes when Lawson D'Ath and Malachi Linton were replaced by Andrew Oluwabori and Jordan Young.

This changed the game into Yeovil's favour and on 65 minutes Yeovil levelled when Andrew Oluwabori chased down Sam Slocombe who didn't see him rushing in. Oluwabori nicked the ball off Slocombe and produced a curling shot that saw Town level the game.

Notts County made their first substitution on 69 minutes when Sam Austin was replaced by Jodi Jones.

Yeovil were now playing much better and were more than holding their own against Notts and starting to cause them some real problems.

Notts County made their second substitution on 80 minutes when Jim O'Brien was replaced by John Bosock.

With 6 minutes left of normal time Notts were awarded a penalty for a foul on Matt Palmer and Ruben Rodrigues converted to restore the lead for the away side.

5 minutes of time was added on and after Yeovil had come close to equalising twice, Notts added a third through Macauley Langstaff when he converted a fine pass into the bottom corner.

One minute later, he completed his hat trick when he fired home at the second attempt to inflict a harsh defeat on Yeovil.

Full Time: Yeovil Town 1-4 Notts County

The scoreline didn't reflect how the game went for Yeovil, they were certainly worthy of a point and supporters probably wouldn't have been too downbeat if it was just 2-1. We are now just three points above the dreaded relegation zone and upcoming away matches against Maidenhead and York are now absolutely crucial.
