Match Report: York City v Yeovil Town

Yeovil Town slipped into the National League relegation zone yesterday afternoon as they were beaten 2-1 by York City at the LNER Community Stadium. The home side took the lead on 15 minutes through Olly Dyson but Yeovil were level on 60 minutes thanks to an Adam Crookes own goal. With 7 minutes remaining Lenell John-Lewis headed home to send Yeovil home with 0 points yet again.

Mark Cooper made four changes to the side that was beaten 2-0 by Maidenhead United in midweek. Jordan Maguire-Drew and Owen Bevan both returned to the starting XI while new loan signings Josh Owers and Seb Palmer-Houlden went straight into the lineup. Edwin Agbaje was dropped from the side while Jamie Reckord, Lawson D'Ath and Alex Fisher dropped to the bench.

Yeovil opted for what looked like a 4-3-3 formation with Ryan Law, Owen Bevan, Josh Staunton and Morgan Williams in front of Grant Smith. Matt Worthington, Josh Owers and Charlie Cooper were in midfield while Seb Palmer-Houlden, Jordan Young and Jordan Maguire-Drew lead the front line.

On the bench was Jamie Reckord, Lawson D'Ath, Alex Fisher, Chiori Johnson and Andrew Oluwabori.

The first half performance was scrappy and York took the lead on 15 minutes with a scrappy goal. From a throw in, Yeovil failed to deal with the ball in the box which was flicked to the back post to Olly Dyson who fired home.

Yeovil's only decent chance of the half came on 21 minutes when Yeovil won a free kick on the left side which was crossed into the box by Charlie Cooper but Morgan Williams put his header over the bar.

York had to make their first substitution on 38 minutes when Ethan Ross picked up a knock and was replaced by Ryan Whitley and six minutes later they had to replace Manny Duku with Shaqai Forde.

10 minutes of time was added on and the home side went in with a 1-0 advantage.

Half Time: York City 1-0 Yeovil Town

No changes were made at half time by either side and I missed the opening 15 minutes of the second half due to drowning my sorrows in the bar!

I'm told by others that Alex Fisher replaced Seb Palmer-Holden and Andrew Oluwabori replaced Jordan Maguire-Drew. A few minutes later Yeovil were level when Charlie Coopers free kick was bundled in by Adam Crookes for an own goal.

Parity restored, the superb away following were hoping that Yeovil could turn the game around but again Yeovil were struggling to get forward with any intent.

Both sides made their final substitutions on 72 and 74 minutes when Yeovil replaced Josh Owers with Chiori Johnson and York replaced Maxim Kouogun with Maziar Kouhyar.

With 8 minutes left to go, York regained the lead when a cross from Ryan Fallowfield was headed in by Lenell John-Lewis at the back post.

4 minutes of time was added on and Yeovil returned to Somerset empty handed.

Full Time: York City 2-1 Yeovil Town

The defeat puts Yeovil in the relegation zone and with 3 home games in a row coming up they are huge games if we are to get ourselves out of the mess we are in. 167 supporters made the journey up to York yesterday, and every single one of them deserves better than what they are currently witnessing at YTFC.

Man of the match voting for this defeat is now open. You can cast your vote here.
