Match Report: Yeovil Town v Newport County
Yeovil Town claimed a well deserved victory over League Two side Newport County at Huish Park this evening. Morgan Williams put Town ahead after 21 minutes and substitute Jake Hyde fired in the second after he missed a penalty a few moments earlier.
Yeovil fielded a strong starting XI of Will Buse, Morgan Williams, Jamie Sendles-White, Alex Whittle, Matt Worthington, Jordan Maguire-Drew, Charlie Cooper, Zack Bell, Olly Thomas and Frank Nouble.
The game started off fairly quietly but Yeovil were the side in more control.
After 20 minutes had gone Town were ahead when Morgan Williams fired into the top corner after the ball fell kindly to him.
Just two minutes later Yeovil were almost 2-0 up when Charlie Cooper's superb free kick from distance was well saved by Nick Townsend.
On 28 minutes Yeovil were inches away from a second when Jordan Maguire-Drew's free kick was given to Frank Nouble who's shot hit the far post and trickled along the goal-line but the keeper gathered the ball.
The only real chance for Newport was on 42 minutes when a header from Kyle Jameson was straight at Buse who caught the effort.
Half Time: Yeovil Town 1-0 Newport County
Neither side made changes at half time and Yeovil continued to play well.
Yeovil's first substitution came on 54 minutes when Olly Thomas was replaced by Jake Hyde.
Yeovil then replaced Zac Bell with Sonny Blu Lo-Everton on 62 minutes.
Two minutes later Yeovil were awarded a penalty when Jordan Maguire-Drew was tripped in the box. Jake Hyde stepped up to take it but he put the penalty over the bar.
It didn't take him long to make amends, as on 73 minutes Maguire-Drew found Jake Hyde who was able to put a shot to the far post and into the net.
Maguire-Drew was then replaced with Josh Owers.
On 77 minutes Alex Whittle was replaced by Will Dawes and with 10 minutes remaining Frank Nouble was replaced by Jordan Young.
Yeovil continued to play well and were pushing for a third goal but they weren't able to get it and Town ran out worthy winners.
