Match Report: Yeovil Town v Chelmsford City

A late goal from Morgan Williams rescued a point for Yeovil against Chelmsford at Huish Park after they fell behind with four minutes left to play. A tame first half saw neither side create much but Town turned on the pressure in the second but didn't take their chances. Adam Mills gave the away side the lead but Town levelled the game on 90 minutes with a deflected shot from Williams which earned town a point.

Mark Cooper made five changes to the side that lost at Havant on Monday. Will Buse was dropped, Jamie Sendles-White and Jordan Maguire-Drew were relegated to the bench, Matt Worthington was out through injury and Olly Thomas returned to Bristol City and is now on loan at Newport County. New loan keeper Joe Day replaced Buse while Morgan Williams, Jake Hyde, Jordan Young and Josh Staunton regained their starting places.

Yeovil opted for what looked like a 4-1-2-1-2 with Alex Whittle, Jake Wannell, Josh Staunton and Zac Bell in front of Joe Day. Morgan Williams sat just in front of the defenders while Charlie Cooper and Sonny Blu Lo-Everton were in the middle. Jordan Young sat just behind the front two of Jake Hyde and Frank Nouble.

On the bench was Jamie Sendles-White, Jordan Stevens, Jordan Maguire-Drew, Josh Owers and Rhys Murphy.

Chelmsford kicked off towards the home end.

Yeovil made the better start to the game, forcing a corner inside the first minute and almost went ahead on 8 minutes when a pass back to the Chelmsford keeper was intercepted but Jordan Young wasn't able to find Frank Nouble who was in a position to shoot.

New loan keeper Joe Day was forced into action on 16 minutes when a shot from Callum Jones was pushed over the bar from inside the box.

On 22 minutes Chelmsford made their first substitution as Jazzi Barnum-Bobb was replaced by Adam Mills.

Yeovil weren't playing well during the first half, and were struggling to create anything up front.

With half an hour gone Yeovil were fortunate not to have conceded. Town were not switched on for a Chelmsford corner and after some calamitous defending which included a point-blank save from Joe Day Yeovil were able to get it clear.

The best chance for Yeovil came on 38 minutes when they were awarded a free kick just outside the area. Jordan Young's effort curled around the wall but was saved by Josh Oluwayemi.

Half Time: Yeovil Town 0-0 Chelmsford City

With just one minute of the second half gone a golden chance went begging for Town when a dangerous cross across the face of goal was met by Jake Hyde. Both Hyde and Josh Oluwayemi went for the ball and they came together and both players were down injured. Eventually both players were OK to carry on.

Two minutes later an even better chance went begging when Hyde was able to steal the ball off a Chelmsford defender and only had Oluwayemi to beat but his poor effort was pushed away with most of the goal to aim at.

Yeovil made their first substitution on 60 minutes when Frank Nouble was replaced by Rhys Murphy.

Town kept up the pressure for most of the second half but they weren't able to find the goal they needed. A string of chances on 63 minutes were saved at the near post before a Rhys Murphy free kick on the edge of the area hit the wall.

Chelmsford made their final 2 substitutions on 72 minutes when Callum Jones and Charlie Ruff made way for Mo Bettamer and Freddie Hockey.

8 minutes later Sonny Blu Lo-Everton made way for Jordan Stevens.

With 10 minutes to go Yeovil were still in control of the play but they had nothing to show for their play. They ended up paying the price for not taking advantage of their superiority when they fell behind on 86 minutes. An attempted clearance from Josh Staunton was sliced at goal and was expertly saved by Joe Day but Adam Mills reacted quickest to fire the away side ahead.

Just after the goal Town replaced Jordan Young with Jordan Maguire-Drew.

Right at the end of the 90 minutes Town pulled it level when a deflected shot from Morgan Williams found the bottom corner.

7 minutes of time was added on and Town weren't able to find the winner that they were pushing for.

Full Time: Yeovil Town 1-1 Chelmsford City

Had Yeovil taken their chances earlier on in the game the outcome probably would have been very different. They had enough chances in the second half to be in a comfortable lead and we need to be more clinical in games against the better sides in the division.

Our next fixture is on Tuesday when we make the short trip up the M5 to Weston-super-Mare. Kick off is at 7:45PM.
