Match Report: Weston-super-Mare v Yeovil Town

The first ever competitive fixture between Weston-super-Mare and Yeovil Town resulted in a 3-2 victory for Yeovil yesterday evening. Town went 2-0 ahead inside the opening 20 minutes as goals from Jordan Young and Jamie Sendles-White gave the away side a commanding lead. Weston pulled a goal back through a deflected shot from James Morton but Town restored their three goal lead early in the second half through Frank Nouble. Weston made it 3-2 in the 97th minute through Jamie Soule but Town held out for the win.

Mark Cooper made four changes to the side that drew with Chelmsford at the weekend. Charlie Cooper was suspended from his red card he picked up at Havant & Waterlooville while Sonny Blu Lo-Everton and Zack Bell were benched and Jake Hyde was dropped.

Yeovil opted for a 5-3-2 formation with Alex Whittle, Jake Wannell, Josh Staunton and Jamie Sendles-White in front of Joe Day with Morgan Williams sat in front of the defensive line. Josh Owers, Jordan Young and Matt Worthington were in midfield while Frank Nouble and Rhys Murphy were up front.

On the bench was Will Buse, Jordan Stevens, Jordan Maguire-Drew, Sonny Blu Lo-Everton and Zac Bell.

Weston kicked off towards the home end.

Yeovil started well and tested the keeper within the first 10 minutes when Morgan Williams turned and shot inside the box but Luke Purnell was able to make the save.

Four minutes later Yeovil were head when Jordan Young was fouled on the edge of the area. Young then stepped up to take the free kick and he produced a superb curling shot that went in off the post, giving the keeper no chance to save the effort.

It didn't take long for Yeovil to increase the lead when Jamie Sendles-White headed home from a corner.

At this point Yeovil weren't as dominant as they were in the opening 20 minutes and they seemed to be content on letting Weston have possession.

Five minutes before half time Weston halved the deficit when an effort from James Moreton was deflected in.

Half Time: Weston-super-Mare 1-2 Yeovil Town

Yeovil made a change at half time, bringing on Zac Bell for Jamie Sendles-White.

Yeovil came out and made a good start to the half and got their reward on 55 minutes when a free kick from Jordan Young was flicked across goal by Josh Staunton to Frank Nouble who was headed home.

The half continued with Yeovil in a comfortable position and Weston were wasteful with any chance they got when they went forward.

Yeovil made their second change on 65 minutes when Rhys Murphy was replaced by Jordan Stevens.

Yeovil did have some half chances to increase the lead. Jordan Stevens was able to break through the Weston defence and attempted to square the ball to Nouble but their defender was able to block the pass.

Yeovil made their final change on 71 minutes when Jordan Young was replaced by Jordan Maguire-Drew.

A few more chances for Yeovil weren't capitalised on, usually for not finding the pass or putting players through. Yeovil weren't in much danger for most of the second half but they will need to be more clinical in future games.

Eight minutes of time was added on and in the 7th minute of injury time Weston got their second when Jamie Soule headed in a decent cross into the box.

With the goal coming so late in the game there wasn't enough time for Weston to push for an equaliser and Yeovil got their first away win since January.

Full Time: Weston-super-Mare 2-3 Yeovil Town

It was a much better performance to those that we have seen in recent weeks and to finally break the away day hoodoo can hopefully give the side some more confidence when playing away.

Our next fixture is on Saturday when Eastbourne Borough visit Huish Park. Kick off is at 3:00PM.
