Man of the Match Voting for Haringey v Yeovil

Yesterday evening saw Yeovil Town advance to the first round proper of the FA Cup by seeing off Haringey Borough of the Isthmian League by a 3-0 scoreline. It was the first time in over 16 years that Town had played in the 4th Qualifying Round of the FA Cup due to our Football League status coming to an end last season.

The first half saw very little chances for both sides. Yeovil had the better passing ability and physical strength which allowed them to limit the amount of chances for Haringey.

As the half wore on Yeovil began to put some real pressure on the Haringey goal and in the 31st minute they got their reward. A goalmouth scramble saw the ball eventually fall to Chris Dagnall who turned it in for his first goal for the club.

After the break Haringey showed what they were capable of as they caught Yeovil on the break but Stuart Nelson made a fantastic stop to prevent Haringey from leveling up the scores.

Despite their strong start to the half - Haringey fell 2 goals behind on 56 minutes as Luke Wilkinson rose highest to head home Yeovil's second from a corner.

Just three minutes later Yeovil added a third to their tally as Chris Dagnall got his second goal of the evening after taking advantage of a mistake by Haringey goalkeeper Valery Pajetat.

Haringey still had some decent opportunities to get on the score sheet - most notably an excellent free kick that was well saved by Nelson to protect Yeovil's three goal advantage.

4 minutes of time was added on at the end of the game but Yeovil managed to see the game out. They will now face fellow National League club Hartlepool United at Huish Park in the 1st Round Proper of the FA Cup on Saturday 9th November.

After the events of the first game at Haringey weekend before last, it was important that the Yeovil players kept their focus and professionalism with all of the media attention surrounding the fixture. They showed they were unaffected by it all and were able to let their footballing ability do the talking.
