Match Report: Bath City v Yeovil Town

Yeovil Town returned to winning ways yesterday evening by overcoming Bath City 1-0 at Twerton Park. After a poor first half from Yeovil they improved in the second and a goal from Morgan Williams on 80 minutes was enough to win the game for Town.

Mark Cooper made one change to the side that was beaten at Wrexham on Sunday. Sonny Blu Lo-Everton was dropped to the bench as Alex Fisher made his first start since his injury last season.

They kept with the 5-3-2 formation they adopted at Wrexham with Alex Whittle, Morgan Williams, Jake Wannell, Duncan Idehen and Michael Smith in front of Joe Day. Matt Worthington, Jordan Young and Charlie Cooper were in midfield while Alex Fisher and Frank Nouble were up front.

On the bench was Jake Hyde, Jordan Maguire-Drew, Sonny Blu Lo-Everton, Will Dawes and Sonny Cox.

Bath kicked off towards the away end.

Yeovil weren't comfortable at all during the first half as Bath were the side looking more lively.

Bath had some half chances in the opening exchanges and on 16 minutes their best chance went begging when a cross flashed across the face of goal with a Bath player just inches away from turning it home.

Yeovil had to make their first substitution on 20 minutes when Alex Whittle went off with an injury. He was replaced by Will Dawes.

Bath had another good chance on 28 minutes when a corner on the right side was met by Kieran Parselle who had a free header but it was straight at Joe Day.

Yeovil weren't able to make anything of their forward play and each time their attacks were defended or fizzled out into nothing.

With five minutes left until half time the Yeovil defence was all over the place and the Bath players were lining up to take a shot at goal but Yeovil scramble it away for a corner which was defended.

Two minutes of time was added on and Yeovil were the side happier to go in at 0-0.

Half Time: Bath City 0-0 Yeovil Town

Neither side made changes at half time and Yeovil started the second half much better.

They still had to be wary of Bath though as on 61 minutes a shot from Elliott Frear had to be cleared on the line by Michael Smith.

Yeovil made their second substitution on 64 minutes when Jordan Young was replaced by Sonny Cox and 9 minutes later they replaced Frank Nouble with Jake Hyde.

With 10 minutes to go Yeovil took the lead when a free kick from the right side by Charlie Cooper found Morgan Williams who guided the ball into the net right in front of the 1,100 travelling supporters.

Straight after the goal Bath made their only substitution of the game by replacing Elliott Frear with Oscar Thorn.

The final 10 minutes were always going to be nervy, especially with a 1 goal advantage but for the most part Yeovil were handling the game well.

Seven minutes of time was added on which felt like an age and after a late scare from a Bath City corner Yeovil could celebrate a Somerset Derby victory in front of their superb travelling fans.

Full Time: Bath City 0-1 Yeovil Town

It wasn't a pretty game but the job was done which is all that matters. Despite our recent run of games without a win, two of those games were in cup competitions which now allows Town to completely focus on their league campaign and the win puts us 6 points ahead of Maidstone with a game in hand.

A shoutout must go to the supporters yesterday evening. To have 1,100 travel up mid-week just three days after we had taken 784 to Wrexham is absolutely fantastic. It just goes to show the true potential of the club when the supporters have a team they can be proud of.

Our next fixture is on Saturday afternoon when we travel to Dartford. Kick off is at 3:00PM
