Match Report: Yeovil Town v Weston-super-Mare

Yeovil Town claimed a narrow 2-1 win over fellow Somerset side Weston-super-Mare at Huish Park. Town were ahead after just 55 seconds through Sam Pearson but Weston levelled the game as Jacob Cane capitalised on some poor defending. Town regained the lead with 7 minutes to go and survived a late Weston push to seal the win.

Mark Cooper made two changes to the side that beat Havant & Waterlooville at the weekend. Alex Whittle was out with an injury while Dylan Morgan dropped to the bench. In came Will Dawes and Jay Foulston to take their places.

Yeovil again went for a 4-5-1 formation with Jay Foulston, Jake Wannell, Morgan Williams and Michael Smith in front of Joe Day. Sonny Blu Lo-Everton and Matt Worthington were in front of the defence while Will Dawes, Jordan Stevens and Jordan Young were sat in just behind Sam Pearson up front.

On the bench was Dylan Morgan, Josh Owers, Alex Fisher and Frank Nouble.

Weston kicked off towards the home end.

The game was just 55 seconds old when Town took the lead. A low delivery into the box saw Sam Person turn the ball in from close range.

Yeovil sat back a lot after the goal and were allowing Weston to grow into the game. Yeovil didn't create much for the remainder of the half. Matt Worthington did force Max Harris into a save on 12 minutes but it wasn't really enough to trouble the away side.

Weston got the goal they deserved on 23 minutes but it came in a rather poor fashion from a Yeovil perspective. A ball over the top wasn't dealt with by Morgan Williams, who allowed the ball to bounce and Jacob Cane was able to lob the ball over Joe Day to level the game.

The away side were now the more lively team with Yeovil struggling to get forward with any intent. Neither side really created much for the remainder of the half and it was a level game at half time.

Half Time: Yeovil Town 1-1 Weston-super-Mare

Yeovil improved in the second half but they were still nowhere near their best. Both sides saw half chances come and go as neither team looked like scoring.

Jordan Young had a decent chance on the hour mark as he got into a good position in the box, tried to take the ball around the keeper but lost the ball.

Yeovil made their first substitution on 62 minutes as Jordan Stevens was replaced by Frank Nouble. Two minutes later Weston replaced Jason Pope with Jordan Bastin.

Will Dawes was replaced by Dylan Morgan on 70 minutes and Jordan Young was replaced by Alex Fisher 7 minutes later.

The lead was almost restored in emphatic style on 80 minutes when Frank Nouble let fly from distance but Max Harris was equal to the effort.

Just three minutes later though Yeovil regained the lead as Morgan Williams made up for his earlier mistake by heading home from a corner.

Weston immediately replaced Rex Mannings with Bailey Kempster and from then until the end of the game were the side in control, pushing for another equaliser.

Time slowly ticked away as Yeovil's defence was holding firm. Five minutes of time was added on and after Weston replaced Robbie Willmott with Sam Avery, Yeovil finally managed to get a hold of the ball and the referee blew the whistle to bring the game to a close.

Full Time: Yeovil Town 2-1 Weston-super-Mare

Not a pretty game tonight. Three points is all that matters but we were nowhere near at the level that we know we can play at and we will need to up our game sooner rather than later. Worthing were beaten at Welling United tonight so the lead at the top is now back up to 13 points.

Our next fixture is on Saturday as we travel to Chelmsford City. Kick off is at 3:00PM
