Match Report: Chelmsford City v Yeovil Town

Yeovil Town suffered a rare defeat yesterday afternoon as they went down 1-0 to Chelmsford City. A poor game from Yeovil saw them go behind with 20 minutes remaining and they had no response.

Mark Cooper made two changes to the side that beat Weston-super-Mare on Tuesday evening. Jordan Young was suspended while Will Dawes dropped to the bench. Dylan Morgan and Frank Nouble replaced them.

Yeovil opted for a 4-5-1 formation with Jay Foulston, Jake Wannell, Morgan Williams and Michael Smith in front of Joe Day. Sonny Blu Lo-Everton and Matt Worthington were just in front of the defenders as Dylan Morgan, Frank Nouble and Jordan Stevens were sat in behind Sam Pearson up front.

On the bench was Alex Whittle, Josh Owers, Will Dawes, Alex Fisher and Charlie Cooper.

The game was a poor one from Yeovil and the first half saw few chances for either side.

It was Chelmsford who had the best chance of the opening exchanges when a shot from Jermaine Francis was pushed wide for a corner which George Alexander headed over.

Matt Worthington let fly at goal on 25 minutes from distance but Henry Gray was equal to the shot but that was the only time Yeovil really threatened. The home side saw a few further half chances come and go and the game was level at half time.

Half Time: Chelmsford City 0-0 Yeovil Town

The second half was just as quiet from Yeovil. They made their first change on 56 minutes as Dylan Morgan made way for Alex Fisher.

Yeovil's best spell of the game was midway into the second half as they enjoyed good possession and were starting to cause Chelmsford some problems but they weren't able to create any clear-cut chances.

Yeovil's second change saw Jordan Stevens replace Will Dawes on 67 minutes.

On 71 minutes Josh Catiglione was replaced by Ody Alfa and Chelmsford took the lead after a defensive mistake allowed Charlie Ruff to turn the ball home.

Six minutes later Yeovil had the ball in the net when Sam Pearson's cross in was flicked on by Will Dawes and Fisher got the final touch as it found the back of the net but the offside flag was up.

Yeovil's final change came on 83 minutes when Michael Smith was replaced by Charlie Cooper and Chelmsford replaced Jermiane Francis with Samir Curruthers three minutes later.

Five minutes of time was added on and after Chelmsford replaced Charlie Ruff with Anthony Wordsworth the game ended in defeat for Yeovil.

Full Time: Chelmsford City 1-0 Yeovil Town

Yeovil deserved to lose yesterday and if truth be told we haven't played well for a few weeks now. We are missing some big players at the moment through injury and the sooner they can get back to full fitness the better. We have a 12 point lead over Chelmsford City so there's no need to panic at all, but we do need to improve our performances sooner rather than later.

Our next fixture is on Saturday as we travel to Farnborough. Kick off is at 3:00PM
