Match Report - Dagenham & Redbridge v Yeovil Town

Yesterday afternoon saw Yeovil Town claim their fourth draw of the season as they were held 0-0 at Dagenham & Redbridge in a game where Yeovil had to play with 10 minute for the final 30 minutes of the match. Yeovil played the better football and hit the crossbar and the post but they were unable to find the goal they needed to claim the three points.

Darren Sarll made two changes to the side that drew 1-1 at Halifax last Tuesday as Ryan Burke and Courtney Duffus were swapped out in favour of Gabby Rogers and Joe Quigley. Adam Smith retained his place in goal with Luke Wilkinson, Josh Staunton and Lee Collins in front of him.

Dan Leadbitter, Gabby Rogers, Charlie Lee, Albi Skendi and Matt Warburton made up them midfield while Rhys Murphy partnered up with Joe Quigley up front.

Yeovil started the game well and threatened to take the lead with just 5 minutes gone after a Yeovil corner was taken short and Gabby Rogers found Charlie Lee who's shot looked to be heading into the top corner but Elliot Justham made a good save.

Yeovil continued to press their opponents but the home side were also having good spells of play and the game was fairly open for the first 20 minutes but neither side created any clear opportunities to break the deadlock.

Just after the half hour mark Rhys Murphy came agonisingly close to getting the first goal as he hit a shot that was goal-bound but the keeper pushed the ball onto the inside of the post and he re-claimed the ball to survive the scare.

Yeovil made their first substitution on 35 minutes as Carl Dickinson took the place of Lee Collins who was forced to come off due to an injury.

With 5 minutes to go until half time Yeovil again came agonisingly close to scoring when Luke Wilkinson's free kick from 30 yards out stuck the crossbar.

Half Time: Dagenham & Redbridge 0-0 Yeovil Town

Yeovil started the second half brightly and continued their good play from the first half but the game got more difficult for them on 60 minutes as Luke Wilkinson was sent off for a last man challenge on Darren McQueen.

Yeovil were holding their own with 10 men but as was to be expected the home side were starting to put Yeovil under some more pressure but in Yeovil's credit they were able to soak it up pretty well and didn't appear to be too affected by the sending off.

On 77 minutes Yeovil made their second substitution as Gabby Rogers was replaced by Matt Worthington.

As the final 10 minutes approached it remained to be seen if Yeovil could take something from the game especially as Yeovil were down to 10 men it was always going to be more difficult to keep their shape and prevent Dagenham from winning the game.

On 84 minutes Yeovil made their final substitution as Rhys Murphy was replaced by Jimmy Smith as Yeovil tried to strengthen the midfield and ensure they kept a clean sheet.

Just 3 additional minutes were given which passed without incident and Yeovil claimed another point which was well deserved given the circumstances.

Full Time: Dagenham & Redbridge 0-0 Yeovil Town

5 games into the season and Yeovil are still without a win but on reflection of recent performances it won't be long until they get that first win on the board. Had Yeovil found the goal they needed yesterday they would have been worthy winners but once again they weren't as ruthless in front goal as they needed to be and were unlucky with hitting the woodwork twice in the first half.

Yeovil now have a break from league action as they face Dover Athletic in the FA Cup on Saturday at Huish Park where they will be looking to advance into the first round.
